The Inspiration Behind Tha Phae Tavern
Tha Phae Gate is one of the most iconic landmarks in Chiang Mai. Originally built over 700 years ago as part of the city’s defensive wall, the gate served as a major trading hub, welcoming merchants and travellers from across Asia. It was a place of commerce, cultural exchange, and connection—where the old Lanna Kingdom met the outside world.
Today, Tha Phae Gate has transformed into a must-visit destination for travellers and backpackers from around the globe. The area surrounding the gate is alive with a cacophony of diverse languages, cultures, and cuisines, bringing people together over shared experiences.
